In general I agree with you about checks and balances and the benefit of multiple viewpoints. That said, the GOP itself needs to be excised at this point. It’s not just Trump. Any self respecting Republican has already left the party. All the ones left are what’s gone wrong with the party, otherwise Trump would never have been an issue in the first place. They all need to go, McConnell included. Don’t forget that he has been acting as a singular voice by stymying Democratic legislation rather than bringing it to the floor for review, debate, and vote. Don’t forget the Republican party could have excised Trump a year ago before Covid and all the election mess and the insurrection if he hadn’t of thwarted a lawful impeachment the first time and backed a criminal president.
And let’s also not forget we now have Republican Congresspersons who actively aided an insurrection, endangering their colleagues. Who still are claiming voter fraud knowing there’s no basis or evidence. Who are still infecting others with Covid. Who are still demanding to go to work armed. Who are known members and advocates of an unhinged conspiracy theorist group.
No. Getting rid of Trump is not enough. They all need to go. Then the Democratic party will split into progressives and conservatives and we’ll be back to checks and balances. Without all the craziness.
