In America education is funded by taxes. Property taxes. College isn't free, but nobody pays to go to school through high school unless they're paying for private school. There are often fees for certain things, like team athletics (you buy your own equipment and uniform) or advanced classes (lab fees to buy equipment, testing fees to get college credit), etc.

As for your statement about Americans not liking to pay taxes .... we say that a lot for sure. But, behind the snippets you get on the news, its a little more complicated than that. Actually, it's a lot more complicated than that. We're not the misers that slogan statement, taken the wrong way, makes us out to be. Most Americans are incredibly generous by nature.

I can't speak for all Americans but I don't mind paying taxes per se. I believe in upholding the commons for everyone. I have a problem paying taxes when that money goes to illicitly fund illegal activities by rogue administrations. I have a problem with the secrecy and double dealing. I have a problem with my hard earned dollars being used on the world stage in the ways it has. I have a problem with the constant fiscal irresponsibility. And the gaslighting.

And then politicians have the audacity to stick their hands out for more, when they stole from the education budget (or whatever) to pay for pet projects (usually wars to sustain the military industrial complex) in the first place.

It's not the taxes themselves, it's the lack of trust that the money given to the government will be used to purpose. But yeah, how else do you have roads, hospitals, libraries, fire and police supports, and schools available for everyone other than to pay taxes? Why would anyone of sound mind begrudge that?
