In a word, hubris.

The problem with Nationalism is the air of superiority it produces. Eventually such thinking leads to war, genocides, persecution and disenfranchisement of “undesirables", global isolation, economic problems around international trade, cultural and social decay and rot when exhibited on a national/nation level.

Hubris is the kind of prideful arrogance that eventually leads to fatal retribution or the creation of your own nemesis. Proverbs 16:18 says “(arrogant)Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.”

Actually, Proverbs is full of admonitions against haughty eyes and a haughty spirit. Haughty eyes is listed among the abominations before God.

It’s not the same as loving ones country, being proud of being a citizen of one’s nation, or even of being proud of the accomplishments, history, vision of one’s nation. There is no hubris or condescension of others in these feelings. Love of one’s homeland is natural and should be celebrated, but you love, recognize, and witness the good AND the bad, which every nation has.

BTW, there’s a difference between true spirituality born of age old truths (which are markedly similar across all faiths despite differences in religious dogma) and conspiracy cults born of propaganda and lies (which are not stretch the bounds of reason and common sense but actively stoke that haughtiness we were talking about above). It serves nothing and no one to pretend like it’s simply a difference of opinion on spiritual beliefs. It is not.

For example, how can you channel the spirits if Natalie Portman and Barak Obama when they are both still living? Aren’t their spirits still attached to their still very earthbound bodies? Come on.

How can it be plausible that Donald Trump is the reincarnated spirit of George Washington when their political beliefs are the exact polar opposites? Remember George Washington, who could not tell a lie and confessed to chopping down that cherry tree? Ok, that one is a myth but Washington valued honesty. Washington was philosophically opposed to political parties. He also was against lifetime presidencies (he literally could have been King) and established the traditions of a 2 term limit and peaceful transfer of power.

Conversely, Trump couldn’t tell the truth is he was being threatened with that cherry tree chopping hatchet, wants to be a despot and usurp the Constitution, has married a political party to a nationalist and conspiracy cults, and has and will trounce all over every democracy preserving tradition we have.

Suggesting a similarity between the two is, frankly, both offensive and illogical. There’s nothing spiritual about it.
