I'm familiar.

The problem is, not everyone else on the internet is and she's writing as a feminist, predominantly on a feminist publication whose owner/editor does not do much curation to ensure submitted articles are actually in line with feminism.

In a way, that's fine because not all feminists voices are the same, not all feminist beliefs are the same... nor should they be. Part of the whole point is for everyone to be able to speak and tell their truth and their experience.

But. It creates a representation problem. Like a lot of bloggers, she's a prolific writer; but because of her past trauma and ongoing problems, she's not a sound thinker, especially in an ideological sense.

She's a rager.

Nothing inherently wrong with that either. There's certainly a place and an audience for that. She could do a lot of people a lot of good. Maybe she is. I hope her writing is therapeutic for her. Given that many women found feminism in the first place after having experienced one or multiple of the many forms of abuse, it's not like there's not some crossover here too.

But. I don't think she's doing feminism any favors by raging in a representative fashion so often and so...unhinged the way she tends to fall. She's certainly also not the only one.

I don't have any easy answers here. She and several others fall into an uncomfortable space i don't think anyone really knows what to do with. I don't believe in censorship for the most part and as I said, there's certainly need and space for her work. She's good at it too.

I just have several concerns, including her deteriorating (?) mental health.

The particular article I responded to belonged in a therapy session in front of a trained professional who could help her unpack that rat's nest of rage. Not as an attempt at feminist work. Certainly nothing meaningful. It was harmful and cruel toward mothers and abusive of a little boy who's unfortunate enough to have been born into a fishbowl of scrutiny that will most certainly drive him as nutty as all his other family members.

The things she said won't end the monarchy, do anything to repair the effects of colonialism, help defend Megan Markle from a press making money off racism, encourage white women to stand against or rethink how they might be contributing to racism, speak toward a culture of violence in any meaningful way that predominantly affects women and children.... I could go on but my lunch time is nearly over and I've got to get back to work.

Really all it did was end up being yet another hit piece against mothers and motherhood. Blaming women for all the problems in the world.

No wonder women don't want to have children anymore.
