If you look at the animal kingdom, most dominance hierarchies shift toward a segregation of the sexes, with most males being more or less disposable. There's a correlation to the level of male on female violence or pecking.

Perhaps what we're seeing is just a natural sociological shift away from shared lives because of out of hand male violence that's been ignored too long and that media and Influencers promoting a caricature of masculinity that glorified and encourages further violence.
