I would want vengeance, for sure.

It's funny you bring that up, because Urchling and I were just talking about the difference between justice and vengeance in the context of state sponsored oppression from The Handmaid's Tale.

We were talking about how some people cant let go of trauma and move forward without justice. If justice isn't possible, the only thing left is vengeance. And about how the state deals of immunity made with war criminals over providing justice to victims of state violence just victimizes them again. Vengeance is then how you move forward.

I think we get that vicarious release from violent vengeance because we see the logic of making deals with war criminals bit we also know it's morally wrong because logic can be used to justify nearly anything.

And I think that's true to a lesser degree in cases of rape on an individual level. We know there is rarely justice, but we're okay sacrificing survivors again to not have to actually deal with it.
