I would submit that there are “real Americans" the world over. As someone who was born in this country and so am a card carrying American, I can say it’s not the legality of it that makes me American so much as adherence to the dream.

We stumble. We fall. We don’t live up to our ideals. We have failed in so many grievous ways.

But we get up. We promise ourselves we’ll do better. We work and try harder. We pick each other up.

And we dare to dream that..

We the People in order to form a more perfect union establish justice, ensure tranquility, provide for the common defense, and secure the blessings of liberty for ourselves and our posterity…

I would much rather have someone who has branded the Preamble upon their heart by my side in this land than any of the wing nuts like your friend here.

Either you know what it means to be an American or you do not. There’s no half way or half assing it and having been born here is no guarantee that you’ll get it.
