I too, would love to hold Cuomo accountable.

That bastard saved 50,000 lives (based on population and average mortality rate) in NY City alone by acting like the Governor of NY should give a damn about New Yorkers. 60,000 in the whole state. How dare he!

Pretending like a “cold” could actually kill people meant the health care system got supported during a catastrophe instead of collapsing. So I guess you have to add to the tally of lives saved all the people who would have needed care for other things and would have died had it not been available. Where does that fool get off?!?

I don’t even want to think about all the New York families he saved from medical insolvency because of an expensive hospital stay (with or without insurance). Clearly, the man has no shame.

Sure, we can gripe about the economic cost and no argument, it’s been painful and will continue to be so. I have to think though, that as long as you’re healthy then recovery is going to be a lot easier and quicker. Fact is, all pandemics are hard on economies, it’s just a matter of degrees. The population having confidence that leadership will focus primarily on reduction of harm and secondarily on recovery help goes a long way toward making recovery quicker and less problematic. I just can’t believe he would want to do that for his constituents though. Somebody thinks very highly of themselves, don’t they?

And the absolute worst thing? He aired daily updates, encouragements, information, and warnings so other states would know what was heading their way and could prepare. It’s like he didn’t want other states to go through what New York did and knew from boots on the ground at ground zero that they were being lied to. Is there no end to his hubris and politicalization?!?

Something must be done, immediately! He needs to be held accountable!

Okay, now that my faux rant is over, I want to say, I don’t thing Cuomo got everything right. Mistakes were made, in hindsight. But I appreciate that he kept it real and he did his best. Meaningful accountability requires recognizing the good as well as performing a critical review of what went wrong. Disasters should never be treated as political fodder to excoriate political rivals you do or don’t like. It shouldn’t be personal, American lives are not toys to be used and discarded in a pretend war game. Seriously.

I also don’t think Trump got everything wrong. But he lied and failed to lead. His choice. But if he wanted to leave it to governors, he should have done so and not obstructed their efforts. He made it personal and political when it shouldn’t have been. He played with our lives, our society, and our livelihoods. I don’t think we should forget that. Or the numerous other politicians who followed suit. I know I won’t as this was NOT a best effort on his part on behalf of Americans.

If we’re looking for true accountability, shouldn’t that be the focus? Did you do the best job you could do with the information and resources you had on behalf of the people you represent? And not political considerations or motivations? Shouldn’t we want true accountability up and down all levels of decision making over more political games? Or do we want continue being willing pawns in increasingly hostile political games?
