I think they can. A small portion will, definitely. I think half would be generous.

That means the other half or more won't. Again, it's not because they can't. It's because they don't want to. I think you hit the nail on the head. The only way a lot of men can feel any self worth or value is in controlling women.

To be fair, the same dynamic exists amongst women. There are plenty of women just fine with the status quo. As long as they are safe in their little bubble and getting a large piece of the pie, they will happily throw theie sisters and brothers under the bus to preserve that status, even if they will never be top dog.

A lot of this ties I to tendency towards authoritarianism/conservativism vs democratic communalism/liberalism.

That's not gender specific, but the particular structural model of society makes the consequences of that choice gendered.
