I think that your personal anecdotal story about someone with schizophreni is not an accurate depiction either, and it's equally as irresponsible if that's the narrative that gets pushed. The reality is many are never violent. Some are. We need to hold space for both truths.

Personally, I'm glad the parents are being charged. They contributed to the series of events that led to the shooting. I don't want to see a witch hunt against parents of mass shooters in general. Parents have influence in their kids' lives, but not total influence. This is a societal problem and requires a societal level, systemic fix. I also realize, were not likely to get it.

One thing I do have some hope for is an end to the disparity in justice between races. Not soon enough, but not never either. It's not always going to be this way.
