I see you’re already getting some flak for this from some religious folk.

It wasn’t the best example to use but not for the reasons the religious folks said. At the time I the sacrifice, Isaac was around 13, not a newborn, so it’s just not equivalent to abortion or abandonment.

In Hebrew tradition, you become an adult at 13 and (if you are male) eligible to receive paternal blessing for inheritance. Since they were nomadic herders, this also meant eventual leadership of the tribe. It had as much to do with Ishmael who was on the cusp of adulthood when Isaac was born and had not yet received the blessing. As the eldest son of Abraham, it was rightfully his and he had been denied for over a decade. I can’t remember if Ishmael and his mother Keturah were exiled into the desert before or after the sacrifice requirement, but it was done at the behest of Sarah.

At any rate, exiling Ishmael usurped the right of inheritance per God’s command. In the early books of the bible, nearly all the patriarchs were usurpers with the help of their mothers.

I also disagree that it “didn’t count as God veing okay with murdering children" because Abraham had 13 yes old Isaac on the sacrifice stone, held down, with knife drawn before the angel showed up with the ram. Isaac was certainly old enough to know he was about to die and Abraham certainly had to have had murder in his heart and the will to draw thr knife in the first place. And God had to have known and been okay with it. You don’t forget when your parent tries to kill you, whatever the reason.

Children who weren’t wanted know it, and they feel the sting of it their whole lives. It is not uncommon for them to think things like “I wish I’d never been born".

Women who don’t want children shouldn’t have them because in the end, those children suffer in a variety of ways.
