I mostly agree with Sam here. The right wing shamfuckery over TW is kind of bizarre since they were the ones who insisted on content labels to protect the kiddies years ago. What's the difference between a content labels for sexually explicit content and a TW for people who's mental landscape had been compromised by trauma?
Seems like a double standard to me. You know how I feel about those.
If you're about to say children vs. adults, the point is that a child is unable to process because they are mentally immature for the subject material. A trauma survivor is unable to process because they are mentally arrested by a past experience of abuse. Both have to do with normal and natural brain function and experience.
So, if we already have content labels, what's the big deal. It doesn't.gave to be a big production. What's wrong with being considerate of your audience? In thr end, theyre the ones oaying your salary. Respecting that is not a bad thing here.
That said, I get why you're out off about the wing nuts demanding a famous 400 year old play be taken off stage. I don't have a problem with a content warning here either, despite the age and fame of the play....it's still new to someone. But once you cross the line into advocating for censorship, you've wandered out of the arena of being considerate and progressive and made a right douchebag of yourself in the process.
It's not the same thing at all. Just ask Tipper Gore. Has she even gotten up the courage to show her face in public again?
Let me know if you need contact info for Dee Snyder, LLCoolJ, Snoop Dogg, et al. They can help you handle the occasional moseying douchebag. Just kidding, I don't know them.
I also take your point about TWs becoming a means of avoidance. It's a decent consideration. I have to ding you here for double standards though.
Weren't you arguing about how age gap relationships undermine autonomy of women and that they should be allowed to make up their own damn minds? So how is forcing, by policy, traumatized people into confronting their trauma when they're not in a good head space to do so NOT undermining their autonomy as well? Shouldn't we trust them as well, even if some make a bad decision and become trigger avoidant? Aren't they adults too?
Besides, forced therapy before someone is ready for it generally does more harm than good.
Okay, I've got to go finish your article that this one linked from now. Glad to see you got over your writer's block. I was thinking about sending the hound after you again.
