I know it wasn't aimed at me personally. That doesn't take away the reckoning of it's symbology. And that's as it should be.

Minnesota just changed their state flag recently. And yes, some folks kicked off about it, apparently they thought it looked too much like the Somali (?) flag or something. So their 'disgust' is likely racially motivated. I haven't seen the new MN flag yet, I just heard about it so far, but as I understand it, the color acheme hasn't changed significantly.

Anyway, I'm getting off on a tangent because I'm like, "the hell????"

The point is, MN changes their flag so it can be done. States can change their flags.

Whenever you make a symbol change, some folks are gonna lose their ever lovin' minds. Best to give them a Vallium or a Prozac and send them off for a nice lie down.

But those southern states will not let those symbols of slavery die. And Alabama is not the only one with a state flag taken from the Confederacy. 170 years and we can't let those symbols die like they should have died then.

If you live in those states, there's not a day that goes by that you don't see those flags. You know what they mean. You know they're painful to your neighbors. You know what they perpetuate. But we all sit still and allow them to go up day after day after day anyway. Hurting our neighbors. Hurting ourselves so a small cadre of assholes can sit on their pride and smirk at the rest of us.

We let that pride dictate our helplessness. Every day.

Lot of that going around about a lot of things.

I don't know why we don't take them down. Burn them down. And when the prideful start their yowling, "pick another flag then, asshole. Put another of those up and I'll burn it down too."

Actually, I do know why. It's a lack of inertia and a liberal failing. Liberals want agreement. They want the douchebags to agree to not be douchebags. Liberals will live innrelative harmony with this shit rather than confront those voices and draw that line in the sand. Go a little Ahab on them, you know? "This far, no farther." Not having it.

There needs to be a reckoning on that. I shouldn't be allowed to be comfortable with that goddamned flag. Neither should anyone else.

Don't be fooled by those sweet looks. We call her a Hellhound for a reason. I'm not mad at her, though. She's waking me up early because I've been woeking a lot of overtime recently and she misses me. This gets her 30 minutes or so extra of morning snuggles and/or a longer morning walk. The imp. So predictable.
