I have done the same. Friend of a friend I didn't know that well got dumped, and in her depression got drunk at a party and made herself vulnerable. She did not choose the proverbial bear and those men there were scheming to tag team her.

I threw their keys in a pool right in front of them and started a (verbal) fight with them while our mutual friend drug her out of there.

It's the damn bear. Every time.
