I got lucky. My Dad believes in equality, more or less, equality of opportunity at least... and my Grandma was not someone you wanted to be foolish enough to mess with or get in the way of. She was a Depression child.

But we lived in a deeply conservative area with a lot of Fundamentalism. So I saw first hand, over and over again, exactly the ways that Fundamentalist religions groom women for abuse from the time of infancy, and how purity culture and complementarian doctrine grooms men to be insufferable jackasses from infancy.

Conservative fundamentalism creates a community wide ick that everybody gets doused in. And they're all cultish and creepy too.
