I eliminated advertising from my home, especially when my daughter was young.

I didn't do anything to promote body shame and ran interference when others did.

I talked to her and taught her about the manipulative nature of advertising.

I rarely ever told her she was pretty (even though she is), instead saying things like, "you look very well today, you look happy, that color really brings out your eyes, etc". I also limited these kinds of comments overall and praised her more for reaching goals, her art, hard work, etc.

We don't follow fashion. No magazines. If she wants to wear a prairie dress that's cool. If she wants to wear a space suit, also cool.

We stay active. Skate, ride bikes, and hike.

We don't diet. We don't talk about dieting. We dont talk about normal fat in women.

Stuff like that makes a huge difference.
