But she was talking about watching the child to see how they react, and in this case particularly, after the fact to determine if it was abuse. In this instance, specifically BECAUSE of the cultural differences and as an outsider and because there's video.
I haven't seen the video, but I'd there were adults present at the time, they probably should have intervened in the moment, again assuming this was not normal and the child was clearly uncomfortable. But they presumably already know the culture.
