I don’t think misandry was the point of bringing them up. Criticizing abrasive behavior of men, questioning or noticing the silence or ambivalence of men when they should be speaking their witness does not qualify as misandry because it is not men themselves that are being held in contempt but abusive behavior in regards to a power structure.

The fact is, this type of behavior tends to breed more of it in men adjacent to it. Birds of a feather…. Men look to the dominant male in a group to see how to behave and adjust their behavior accordingly or risk getting pecked down.

Their silence now means they participated in, willfully turned away from, or have since learned that behavior is wrong and not okay.

They can’t condemn or verify it because they were part of the environment and can’t risk any part they played in it being exposed. They may also feel a degree of guilt or confusion for not recognizing it at the time or why the abrasiveness and poor conduct is different experience for them than it is for the more marginalized members of society.
