I don’t pretend to be an expert on the middle east, but this seems meaningless. Most, if not all of the countries in that area have a long list of tribal grievances they will never truly set aside to move forward. Borders were drawn in the aftermath of WWII that are arbitrary and seem to cause or inflame tensions between clans/tribes of different people who cannot get along and are now forced to share space. Being a desert area, resources are severely limited which always leads to conflict as well.
They have oil. The west pays for that oil with munitions mostly, providing means of them making endless war on each other that put the whole world in danger and lead to human suffering on the level of WWII, only now it’s nearing a hundred year conflict. Since, you know, WWII.
Good God dude. Have you seen what’s happening in Yemen right now? Any middle eastern focus should be there right now where some actual good might be done. This treaty seems to be just sanctioned posturing and it doesn’t bind either party to anything so it won’t last.
It’s an empty win.
He’ll be crowing about how he should get a Nobel peace prize next, oh wait, he already has. Little boys crow over folding their first paper airplane too. It still doesn’t fly.
I suspect this agreement is more strategic on their parts, since we’re so close to an election as you say. But if you think about what a win or a loss for Trump in November could mean and open up opportunity for from their perspective, you’ll break out in a cold sweat and start praying for a Biden win.
Really think about it, chew down on it hard. Look at what’s happened in the past every time there’s been a weak, distracted, or embattled President in that area. Chew on that some more. Now recall the drone execution of Suleiman. Consider the alienation of our allies who could have stepped in and filled the void. Think about the state of the world during this pandemic. Think about what happens there every. single. time. Look at Yemen. Look at Yemen. Look at Yemen.
You done chewing yet? Still over the moon about this 'paper moon' treaty?
