I don't know. There will still be ways for bias to creep in, but that's always going to be the case.

I think most of the pay gap at thisnpkint is due to two things. The motherhood penalty (social and financial) and that women are not gertting promoted to higher positions or pay raises in equitable amounts. And that too is worse when you're a mother. Before you say "women don't negotiate for hogher salaries", a recent study has shown that's not the case. They are trying; they're just being denied.

Still, I think if you exclude those high ranking position and their exorbitant salaries that throw off the mean, were closer to parity than most realize as far a hard wages go.

Personally I'd like to see women and possibly men able to take something like a non punitive 5 to 10 year early and temporary "retirement" in order to raise kids till school age.

There should be some flex, obviously, but that's just a matter of negotiating details. This idea would probably be more possible if we still had pension plans as part of employment package and I'm basing that on my aunt and uncle's retirement packages as teachers and my grandfathers as a railroad employee.

I gotta go too.
