I don't know about this Bebe. No doubt the No Child Left Behind program has been devastating for many children. It's been a lifeline for others.

There's an argument to be made about whether or not violence in schools is a consequence of relaxing discipline standards/ taking it away from teachers or whether it's a reflection of our greater society becoming more violent.

For example, you recalled an incident where a student hurled a plate of food at a teacher.

The former President did the same thing. He did not attend school under No Child Left Behind. He went to good schools. Discipline was more heavily enforced back then. Paddling was allowed.

He still threw a plate, was a bully got into fights, cheaters etc. Clearly, any attempts at discipline didn't make a dent in his behavior, even decades later.

It also cannot be argued that one of the reasons teachers began to lose the right to discipline was because they were often too heavy handed and unfair. Lot of kids were bullied by teachers, particularly the "weird" kids or LGBTQ+ kids, girls in some instances, boys in others, children of color, children from dysfunctional homes, etc. Teacher bias eas having an undue influence in school discipline.
You make some good points, but this issue isn't as cut and dried as simple lack of discipline.
