I don't follow or read Denning but I have seen this phenomenon twice with other writers. It seems fishy so you click on their profile and it's a dummy account made to look like the writer you commented under. They use their avatars and everything but the name will be slightly off, usually by a special character. In my case, it was an accent mark over an A.
The first one was a spam link about crypto currency.
The second one was in the comments section under someone else's comment and it was something or other about the Illuminati. Maybe an invitation to membership?
Both were obvious frauds as the one sent to me was under an article writing about how crypto currency is a Ponzi scheme but the linked comment was "So and so's method made me big bank in cryptocurrency! You can too!!" The second one was an invitation to a super secret organization of the elite made to Joe Schmo made publicly for all the world to see when their modus operandi since their inception has been membership secrecy??? Uh huh. Alright.
But then, people really are that gullible.
Best you can do is report, block, and let the author know they're being defrauded.
