I disagree. They can. They absolutely can, even the super small Buffy-sized ones. Might take two or three on one end but there’s no reason why they can’t.
Hell, children can figure out how to move a piano and can do so if they work together and there are enough of them. I’ve seen that too; not an actual piano, but a comparable large, heavy object.
That said, I agree that it is hard for one woman to move furniture with one man. I disagree that the issue is always the strength disparity. It’s hard for most men to work with a woman. It’s hard for most women to take the initiative there and communicate. Men don’t think about things that will maximize a woman’s grip on the object which would help a lot; we have smaller hands. Going up stairs, men take the bottom position going forward and thus most of the weight leaving women walking backwards. Which would fine if they didn’t then try to run up the stairs assuming you can’t hold your end knocking you over on the stairs and dropping the couch on you. Or not keep pace (the one going backwards should set the pace), which leads to pulling the object away from your center of gravity and then slamming it back into you (and your boobs) because all they can think of is how to "compensate for the woman", creating problems rather than solving any.
That kind of thing. Personally, I find it easier to move with a couple a few good, strong female friends and a decent pair of hand trucks. More organized, not as exhausting, get done quicker. Things don’t get lost. Kids seem to stay on track better too. Don’t know why, but that’s my observation.
The last few times I’ve moved (or helped someone move) have been all women (w/kids twice). Longest time frame was 5 hours and that was clear across town with more than two trips to complete. 3 bedroom house, washer/dryer, freezer, and refrigerator included. And yes, we disassembled and reassembled everything. Also, nothing got broken.
