I disagree, at least about both these pieces. I've not read your entire back catalogue, but I've read a few and I can tell improvement stylistically, at least.
But that doesn't make this one bad or sterile. It does read neutral. Academic. Personally, for this type of piece, I think that's a good thing. They're historical as well as a psychological review. Given that, snark or cheeky commentary is more out of place than the political article this one linked to.
One thing I was impressed by was flow. You and Jessica Wildfire have incredible flow. Like, 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon but y"all can do it in 3 kind of flow. And, it seems to come so naturally to you both. It really is impressive. It's one of the reasons I enjoy reading you both so much.
I struggle with flow, like a lot of people here in Medium.
I really think you're being too hard on yourself here. Like, newspaper to the back of the head cause you need some cognitive recalibration, kind of hard on yourself.
