I appreciate that. However, I don't think we're at cross purposes here. I'm not criticizing Osaka. I'm glad she's taking care of herself. I think she made a good call. Based on what options were available to her at the time.

I understand that sometimes with mental health, you just can't keep up and you need to withdrawal. Or you don't know what you're getting into and you realize it's not the place for you. That's what happened to you and you addresses what needed to happen to take care of yourself.

But not everyone with mental health issues is the same. It's a big umbrella.

Osaka has been playing tennis since she was 3, so 17ish years. I don't know how long she's been playing professionally, but long enough that she's accrued some wealth from it, is widely known, and has beaten her idol. So she knows the business and the sport and she's been successful. So your comment doesn't seem to apply to her in the manner that it did to you.

Either way, I'm just saying it's a damn shame there wasn't the option to resolve the incident more professionally and compassionately for everyone involved at the time. And for seemingly no other reason than the historical stigma associated with mental health.

I'm saying that after this... I hope the industry rethinks it's policy a bit. Because she's not the first. She won't be the last. And as I said, it's become a prevalent problem society wide. People won't take too kindly to it now. It's more relatable for a while lot more people in ways it never was before. So taking a hard, absolutist tack as an industry may very well be cutting off their own nose to spite their face.

Either way, I don't have any say in it or any meaningful interest in the sport itself. That's just my opinion. I just think there wasn't really a right or wrong here. But it's a moment to reflect and maybe reconsider policy going forward.

I will also say, Osaka handled herself exceedingly well by all accounts. Professional and squared away. So, she's got my nod, for what it's worth.
