I agree with you here. I think there’s both room and need to examine race. You can look at race as an element or factor of the crime without attaching it to the hate element of the crime.

The reason why I believe there’s room for this is because we’ve already missed moments where Asian fetish within the porn industry could have been talked about and dealt with, including the links to human trafficking.

This mass shooting can serve as a jumping off point into a broader discussion. You can do that without making it about angry white men or race hate.

We need to embrace more nuance with our writing and how we talk about these issues so we don’t fall into polar, binary, tribal camps.
