I agree with most of your comment, but I think it’s a little off.

Just because someone voted for Trump doesn’t mean they enthusiastically endorse Trump. They’re actually voting Republican for a variety of reasons and he’s who Republicans offered. Some are more or less rational reasons and some are warped thinking based in misinformation, and some are just insane and inane nonsense.

Don’t forget, a lot of Democrats who voted for Biden weren’t really thrilled with that option. They didn’t ringingly endorse Biden himself. They voted for Biden because he was not Trump and because they voted Democrat and he’s who Democrats offered.

The vast majority of registered Republicans were going to vote for Trump because as bad as he is, and most of them do believe he is horrible, he’s still not a Democrat. Democrats have been so successfully maligned by shock jock radio like Rush Limbaugh and news entertainment like Fox “News” that they legitimately fear a Democratic push to socialism even though very few Democrats support socialism.

They’re also trapped in the belief in the Republican party’s history of fiscal responsibility even though that hasn’t been true for decades. They believe Democrats start wars but fail to commit, and are weak on policy. Further, let’s not forget the huge influence of the Republican party getting into bed with the Christian Coalition during the Regan years. That influence is more profound than people seem to realize amongst the faithful.
