I agree. We shouldn’t erase our history. But we shouldn’t be cowards about facing the absolute truth of it either. There are ugly, horrible things in our past we should not glorify and revere in hindsight because it’s uncomfortable to acknowledge that part of ourselves in the present.

Those statues can be put on display, in an appropriate setting, without being forced as a constant reminder into the space of the general public.
