I agree. Plus, lots of times you give up those things, or rather, the easy and ready access of those bonds you had with other people (family and friends) in order to have that bond with someone else. When it falls through, not only are you experiencing unfulfilled expectations, but you're missing and mourning the loss of what you gave up for that romantic relationship.
