Hey Nigel. How's it going?
Interesting that you should ask this because just last night the Urchling and I were having just such a discussion.
I don't know if you know, you probably doz but there's an ethical game of testing your morals about Hitler. So the game goes, if you could go back in time and take Hitler out, wiuls you? And you set the parameters of the game, like if it's a one way trip, when it happens, stuff like that to test your moral line.
We were playing a Walking Dead version of this game in regards to Ed, Carol's abusive husband from the first season.
Our results were interestig and we both learned a lot about each other.
Also means I can't answer your question, because I don't have all the parameters. What's moral and right for me won't be for someone else.
I will point out that you have more options than death or permanent imprisonment. Jesus, why is everything always binary options with you guys? No sense of a slide rule whatsoever.
Exile is an option. Consequences and fear of consequences. A stern talking to. A group stern talking to. An accountability partner. Shunning is awesome, ask any Amish person. Rehabilitative Education. And so forth and so on.
There's a whole toolbox there. You don't have to hit everything with a hammer. Maybe that fastener can be turned into place, wedged, slipped in and glued down, clamped, or cured and dried, etc.
Take a good solid look at what you're trying to do, what your fastener is, and then check your toolbox.
