My speculation was that maybe he got COVID and it weakened his heart and/or vasculature.

We were both wrong. The autopsy report is out. Looks like his liver was bad. He had cirrhosis from Hep C. It’s been known that he was a heavy drinker for years, so looks like that caught up with him some too.
