Hence the “party on Saturday, repent on Sunday” behavior so prevalent in much of the church. It’s basically a license to do whatever harmful and hateful thing you want so long as you ask forgiveness for it after.

But asking forgiveness is not the equivalence of true and abiding repentance. It’s merely the first step of a journey of many steps. Given under false pretenses, (meaning you have every intention of doing the same thing next week), it’s worth even less and a waste of everyone’s time, including God’s.
