He/She isn’t. It’s really not up for question. I swear, it’s like none of these idiots read their Bible.

I’ll paraphrase. I don’t remember the exact passage or where it was. Somewhere in the book of Kings or right before.

The People: yo God. Good to see you. Will you choose for us a King?

God: What?!? Have y’all lost your marbles? You don’t need a King. You have me. Bring me all your concerns and I will take care of you.

The People: Thanks, that’s sweet. Sporting of you even, but, ugh, we want a king. We need a leader. The people are bickering. Someone needs to be in charge to settle disputes.

God: I can help y’all with that. Bring your disputes to me.

The People: Appreciate the offer and all, but …er, well…. you’re not exactly around 24/7 are you? A king would be.

God: Call me and I’ll come.

The People: We wouldn’t have to go through all that rigamarole with a king though, we could just show up on his doorstep.

God: I don’t think y’all fully understand what you’re asking for. You don’t really want this.

The people: We do understand. A king would be awesome. Are you saying you won’t choose us a King?

God: No. If that’s what you truly want, I’ll choose you a king. But understand, you’ll have to obey a king’s decrees, even the bad ones.

The People: Okay. Sounds amenable.

God: I won’t intervene against his decrees again if it goes badly, even if it harms you.

The people: Sounds perfect! We’ll trust whoever you trust.

God: You’ll have to work to support him and he could take all your wealth. Even kill you.

The people: That sounds reasonable. It would never go that far. Let’s not be overly dramatic.

God: If you choose a king over me I’ll leave and not come back. Like, ever. This will be permanent.

The people: You gotta do what you gotta do. You’ll be missed. So who d’ya have in mind for a king? How soon can we make this happen?

God: Absolute last chance. Don’t you even want to take a while, discuss it amongst ALL the people and think it through. Mull on it at least a night?

The People: No need. We’re the ones who deserve to make this call and we want a king. We’ve already spoken to everyone who matters anyway, and we’re all in agreement.

God (sadly, and heartbroken): Okay. I’ll choose you a king.

…. and so it came to pass that the wealthy, the strongest, and the most revered men were brought before God and God chose amongst them a king. Then God returned to the heavens, never to walk amongst the people or INTERFERE IN THEIR POLITICS EVER AGAIN.

God doesn’t stick his nose in where it’s not wanted. And ages ago, he was told he wasn’t wanted. According to scripture.

Thus endeth the lesson.
