He means that it was better for men when women were struggling with self esteem (beauty industry is/was brutal) because it meant men got sex easier. Now that the gig is up about the beauty industry and women are doing the work of mentally deflossing from that nonsense, they're less willing to engage with casual sex in the hooes that it will lead to a relationship rather than building a meaningful relationship first and testing men for their sincerity and misogynistic flaws.
Like all these articles, the author thinks he's schooling women on their place, but really he's just telling on himself and his belief system.
