Good story, and told very well. The Navajo believe spirits and other entities tend to gather in room corners.

Since we've moved to Arizona, Jupiter will often watch a particular corner and chuff at it. When I told this to a Navajo friend of mine she got spooked pretty bad. The last time it happened, she sat on the bed and chuffed at the corner, wagging her tail occasionally, for a good 40-45 minutes. But she clearly wasn't distressed so I just let them converse.

Coming from Appalachia, I'm familiar with all sorts of haints myself but they never spooked me. It never occurred to me to try to get rid of them. Sometimes weird things happen or you sense a presence but I've never experienced that sense of malevolence people describe. Sadness, sometimes anger, definitely (their) fear, but not malevolence. We lived for a while near where the Bell Witch haunted the Bell family. The woods and caves around that area have always been sad and ... sort of shy. The animals are all hyper vigilant and reactive. The bats fly weird.

Did you make that ancestor jar? One of the things an ancestor jar does is keep the spirits calm and grounded in where they are. It won't get rid of them, but it does seem to help anchor them where and when they are so they don't get scared. Then you just get stuff like light ball ping pong or finding a teacup on the counter when you need a break or a penny balanced on the front door knob to remind you you left your wallet in your other bag. That kind of thing.
