Feminism began at different times, in different countries, but it's usually recognized as the first push for the right to vote. In the US, that's 1848. It was roughly the same time period for many western nations. It was not medieval, which period is usually recognized to have been from 1066 to 1485.

New Zealand was the first country to give women the vote. It was early 1890s, as a recall. Off the top of my head, I don't remember the exact year.
