Especially when you’re butting in.
I know. I’ve seen lots of British movies and BBC.
It’s impertinent and disrespectful not to acknowledge your intrusion.
Whereas over here in America, depending on where you live that amount of stoicism isn’t always a good thing.
For example, in Appalachia the occasional bout of histrionics might prevent you from being eaten by a bear. Being all stiff upper lip is an affront to bears. They’ll think you’re challenging them and respond accordingly. Do you want to wear your emotions on your sleeves a bit. Conversely, when in the presence of a skunk, that stoicism comes in super handy. You want to remain calm, cool, and most of all aloof no matter what or suffer the consequences. You don’t want to trigger the skunk into a fit of histrionics or you’ll be banished outside for 2 weeks.
