Especially considering certain classic stories are told again and again and again. Why not have a lot of different versions with different cultural perspectives and cast. I do agree though, that if you're going to do an African version of Cinderella, for example, the whole thing needs to slant.toward African culture. Culture, setting, costumes, dialogue, etc.
And you could do a European version of Mulan but shift everything. That one's maybe not the best example because it was kind of Eurocentric anyway, but maybe you get my drift.
