Don’t know about Umair Haque but Jessica Wildfire believes we are in an early state of collapse, not apocalypse.

They’re not the same thing.

Collapse is a natural part of the life cycle of civilizations. Sometimes they reorganize, sometimes they end.

She believes Western Civilization will likely end this time instead of reorganize, which it has done before. This belief isn’t based on hysteria or fear, but because Western Civilization as a whole is at the average life span already, because empires always collapse catabolically, when they expand too far to keep up with and that has happened, and because of the simultaneous environmental collapse.

Collapse isn’t quick. She isn’t saying that life will end within a decade. Rome collapsed over centuries. We’ll probably collapse quicker than that because of the environmental degradation and resource depletion, but it’s not going to be overnight.

And there will be survivors. There will be a new civilization in time.

You’re misrepresenting her work. Her articles on collapse basically say the same thing yours do. Make a plan. Focus on resilience. Gain skills. Grow food. Have a big out bag if you have to evacuate a while.

That’s hardly apocalyptic.
