Growing up on a farm in lower Appalachia, I’ve had exposure to potentially dangerous animals since I was a little child. There were coyotes and wolves around. Pit viper encounters weren’t unusual on our property, since it had multiple water sources. And yes, bear sightings were always a possibility.
