Doesn't surprise me. The church was not really a product of Jesus, but more of Paul. Other than the remembered words about Peter being the foundation of the Church, Jesus seemed to be mostly anti-religion in his teaching. Interestingly, the modern church is built upon the ideals and foundational work of Paul, not Peter.

I think people are dinsing that the business of religion gets in the way of true spirituality, which tends to happen in quiet and private moments. Like Jesus said.
