Cause they don’t really care about free speech as a philosophy? Come on. They’ve never really thought about it or thought it through. If they had, they’d be a little more mindful about the rhetoric.

What they care about is being able to say what they want to say in whatever vile way they want to say it without consequence or responsibility for inevitable and logical outcomes of promoting all that hate.

It’s a power play wrapped up in an ideology that automatically has a veneer of nobility about it.

It’s a sham. And a scam.
