It was a twisting fracture, very minor; so minor it was not obvious on standard x-rays. They found it with deeper MRI imaging.
The boot is likely more protective than anything, to stabilize the sprain so he doesn’t twist it again and worsen the fractures. Again, prescribed because of his age and because of his inability to rest and elevate. It adds compression.
There is no reason whatsoever to think this was a false report. None. What purpose would it serve?
