Boys need a different construct of being, a more natural one. Broad strokes, I don't think boys need more parenting. They don't need better parenting either.

What they need is for society to stop trying to create them. Society's appetite for creating manhood is like a mad scientist narrative version to the intro of The Six Million Dollar Man.

That's not the fault of mom's. Its not because modern women are incapable of raising boys, and all that other nonsense he said. I think it's clear that, broad strokes, moms are trying to protect their boys from the unmaking of their personhood. I think that's clear because of the grief they express at losing that little boy sweetness that almost all boy moms express at some point. And it's different than just the bittersweetness of normal growing up.

I just think that moms ultimately lose this battle because of the paradoxes it creates for them. And I also think, by and large, moms are the only ones trying to make things different for their sons. Nobody else gives a darn. They'll be happy to make money off the pain and misery the making of men causes though. There's almost as much money in it as there is in misogyny.
