Both my aunt and my uncle were teachers. My uncle retired a few years ago, he worked well into his 70s. My aunt retired a few years early, unplanned (she had planned to keep working indefinitely) to take care of her parents after Papa had a stroke and Grandma had cancer. I have some distant cousins who are still teaching.

The guy in the clip reminds me of the teacher in The Breakfast Club. Walter Rhein recently wrote an article about a troubled kid in school andhie his teacher eventually threw that kid, desk and all, down the stairwell.

The teacher in the clip is talking about how his job is untrnable because there's no trust in him.

But.

Can you ever truly have trust without accountability?

Teachers were given automatic trust and they abused it. The tracher in Walter Rhein's story faced no consequences. He went on terrorizing thise kids for decades. Teachers have assaulted, been racist toward, shamed, abused, lied about kids, made false accusations against, and harmed kids without consequence since the first school was in session.

There's a reason they're not automatically trusted now. The shame is that it took this long.

Now, there's no doubt kids today are struggling with some unique challenges and also having a harder time with the regular ones.

There's also no doubt the school system needs a revamp.

But.

There's something in the way this guy is addressing the problems that should raise some eyebrows. This is not a guy you want championing that revamp. Anyone who talks about wanting or losing privilege without responsibility or accountability is not somebody who is going to be concerned about snyone but himself, ultimately or be someone you can count on to keep his ego in check in a position of authority.
