Because you're not who they want to be approached by? I've noticed this same thing too.
With women, we're constantly approached by men who male pests of themselves; they won't take no for an answer, their approach is horribly negative and triggering, we get the "ick" from it.
It's hard not to see it.
Men seem to like the validation of the attention, but despite all the online rhetoric about how they'd love to be approached, they only want to be approached by someone they're attracted to as well. They seem to ONLY see women they find attractive. All other women may as well not exist.
They'll still take that boost of attention though, which is more about flexing madculinity to other men.
