Flipping someone off for harassing you, whether you were at that rally counterprotesting or just passing by—it is a public space, after all—does not in any way justify a physical assault by 20+ people.

I get that your intent is to determine the factors of escalation, but your wording suggested otherwise. It suggested victim blaming.

On behalf of all marginalized and protected groups to anyone who follows that playbook, we’re done with that. We will no longer accept it and the violence. You will be called out and held to account.
