Because the majority of men are not for equality or there would be equality.
The majority of men are rather neutral in the topic. They don't necessarily oppose it, especially actively because that affects their propects of getting decent sex negatively.
But they secretly (not so secretly) believe that things were better, especially for them, when women were disenfranchised and made dependent on them.
They begrudgingly acknowledge that this wasn't really great for women and they'll hop all over how sad it was that *some* men were so horribly abusive toward their wives, but *they'd* never do that and it might have been a fair trade off to have some peace, in retrospect. They wouldn't be that torn up, truth be told, if this is went back to the way they were because they're a *good* man.
That's what most men think about equality. How many times do we have to hear it from their mouths and read it from their words to believe them and see them for what they are, ladies? How many times?
