Because men desire the respect of women. Recognizing that fact has nothing to do with the fact that I, as an individual woman, do not care about the respect of 'men'.

It's not a human life, it's a clump of cells. So yes, you are taking accountability for life.... your own. Because parenting is a long haul and there is no damn village. You can't depend on the father to not bail when and if the going gets rough. Check the stats. Ultimately it's all on the mother the vast majority of the time. That's why she gets the only say that matters. The final one. And no law or ban will stop that.

'Men' refers to the societal standard of men. Think of it like that saying, "a person is smart, but people are dumb". I think that was George Carlin.

A man is fine. As individuals, most of them are cool. As a collective idea, "what it means to be a man", blah blah blah....

there's not much there worthy of respect from me, particularly as a woman. In large part because of what sort of respect they demand from me as a woman, and what that "respect" will mean for my life.
