Because in this instance it’s not about calling out the pretty police, or the religious bigots, or the racists, or the homophobes, or the misogynists/misandrists, or any hate group in an attempt to change their behavior to mold the world to your view.

There’s a time and place to push back against hate. And there’s a time to retreat into and strengthen ourselves.

In this instance, it’s about getting away from all those toxic messages, healing the hurt we’ve already absorbed, and learning to be okay with ourselves.

It’s not a permanent escape, because that’s unhealthy too. Sooner or later, we all have to deal with people again. It’s a reinforcement of basic humanity within ourselves, so we don’t accrue ever more and more damage while we heal.

Then you come back and try to make things different and better for those that follow. You change the world from a place of strength, endurance, and peace, by sheltering others.
